Get Skilled is a web based educational resource that prepares students for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) developed by English teachers and tested and piloted in Ontario school boards.
The provincial government has challenged school boards to significantly increase the pass rate of students performing at levels one and two and students in applied level courses. Get Skilled is specifically designed for these students.
Get Skilled Targets the Skills Students Need
Get Skilled offers the grade 10 class that is preparing for the OSSLT very specific tasks. Reading and writing selections target the skills a student needs to pass the test. Students work their way through all of the components of the test: information paragraphs, supported opinion writing, news articles, the writing of news stories, comprehension skills, multiple choice answers, graphic text, vocabulary building and defining words in context.
Grade 10 Classrooms
Get Skilled can be used in any class preparing for the OSSLT. Whether it is the core grade 10 applied classrooms, the ESL class, ELL or special education, alternative classrooms or the academic or gifted class, Get Skilled can serve as a comprehensive preparation program for the OSSLT.
